Although there are interns of color in the House, the troubling fact is the vast majority of them are employed by lawmakers who are Black, Latino, or Asian/Pacific American. Generally speaking, a lawmaker’s racial background is correlated with who they will hire. We found that white members from both parties are more likely to staff their offices with white interns (and white intern coordinators).
