What is one piece of advice about activism you wish you had known when you first got involved?ZK: zoom freak 2 size 13 “A lot of teens feel like they have to fit in and behave a certain way or else people they consider their friends won’t accept them anymore,” Sierra says. “Monse’s storyline is inspiring because people who are of mixed heritage and in the circumstances she’s in don’t really get a lot of stories [on screen]. They don’t have a lot to pull from. I think they’ll be able to relate to what Monse is going through.” zoom freak 2 size 13 Amnesty has been apart of my life since my freshman year of high school, a club I accidentally joined as a confused 9th grader. But it has become so much more than that. It is important to me because it showed how essential activism is to our lives and the people we fight for. It also showed me that how powerful individuals can be when they come together to fight for a good cause. Not only this but Amnesty has fought for so many communities and individuals who were silenced for their skin color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or simply because they could be taken advantage of. It showed me that although the world is full of cruel people, there are good people who have to fight the injustice and I decided that I needed to be one of those good people.SZ: zoom freak 2 size 13 I would urge them to take part in the discussion in a respectful manner and reach out to us with their opinion. We are always open to hearing the thoughts of our audience, regardless of whether it is positive or negative feedback. I think it is important to speak about issues that aren't necessarily the most comfortable to deal with, and race is definitely one of them. However, the more we speak about these issues as a collective, the closer we can come to understanding the complexities behind them and move forward to become a more respectful and inclusive society. zoom freak 2 size 13
